Dynamic Guard Bandwidth Scheme for Wireless Broadband Networks

چکیده
−In future wireless broadband networks, bandwidth demands could fluctuate abruptly due to movement of high data rate users. Dynamic bandwidth reservation plays a key role in ensuring that mobile calls are not disrupted after they are admitted into the network. We propose a dynamic guard bandwidth scheme that adapts the amount of guard bandwidth in both wired and wireless links according to real-time handoff predictions made by individual mobile terminals, leveraged by the expected widespread availability of GPS-capable wireless devices in the near future. We describe procedures for approximating irregular handoff-request boundary, and for estimating a mobile's remaining time to handoff and target handoff cell. Guard bandwidth is adjusted on the fly only when a handoff is anticipated to occur shortly. The scheme is robust against modifications in handoff parameters, as well as changes in terrain and manmade features that could affect radio propagation. It also caters for heterogeneous bandwidth requirements. Admission control algorithms for both new calls and handoff calls are provided. Simulation results show that our scheme is able to meet specified forced termination probability under high offered load, and that resources are not reserved unnecessarily.

In this paper, we consider the call admission problem in cellular network with two classes of voice users. In the first part of paper, we introduce a two-threshold guard channel policy and study its limiting behavior under the stationary traffic. Then we give an algorithm for finding the optimal number of guard channels. In the second part of this paper, we give an algorithm, which minimizes th...

An efficient bandwidth allocation scheme is proposed for supporting integrated services in wireless ATM networks. These include CBR, VBR and ABR types of traffic. The proposed scheme is based on A-PRMA for carrying ATM traffic in a dynamic TDMA type access system. It allows mobile users to adjust the reserved bandwidth according to their current demands and the wireless channel status. Extensiv...
متن کاملDynamic Bandwidth Allocation for QoS in IEEE 802.16 Broadband Wireless Networks
IEEE 802.16 broadband wireless access (BWA) technology is suitable for providing multimedia applications without accessing the wired networks directly. Although IEEE 802.16 standard well defines the quality of service (QoS) framework, it makes no specific recommendation with regard to the bandwidth allocation. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for allocating bandwidth in response to dynami...

Dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) will play an important role in future broadband wireless networks, including the 3G and 4G WCDMA systems. A code-division generalized processor sharing (CDGPS) fair scheduling DBA scheme is proposed for WCDMA systems. The scheme exploits the capability of the WCDMA physical layer, reduces the computational complexity in the link layer, and allows channel rates...
